DUB – Amala Dianor / Kaplan
ImpulsTanz Festival [ENA] DUB by Amala Dianor is a dazzling tribute to the global heartbeat of street dance—bold, dynamic, and utterly electrifying. Staged as both performance and installation, this vibrant work transforms the stage into a pulsating urban mosaic: stacked box-like structures serve as miniature worlds, while the open floor becomes a kinetic playground for eleven exceptional dancers from cities as far-flung as Johannesburg.
Rather than referencing dub music directly, Dianor reimagines “dub” as a metaphor for cultural remixing. Each dancer brings their own aesthetic language—krump, breaking, popping, afro-fusion—colliding and conversing in breathtaking sequences of fluid virtuosity. Together, they create a visual and emotional rhythm that transcends style and geography. The choreography pulses with raw energy and joy, yet it also carries quiet political resonance: a celebration of dance born in the margins that now defines a global artistic vocabulary. Awir Leon’s textured score and Grégoire Korganow’s sculptural set deepen the experience, turning the performance into a living, breathing archive of street culture.
DUB doesn't just showcase physical prowess—it channels memory, identity, and resistance through movement. The performers’ individuality shines, yet they weave seamlessly into a shared, electrified community. Dianor masterfully balances structure and improvisation, giving space for surprise, humor, and intensity. The result is a joyful, defiant celebration of global street dance cultures.
