Pulsing Celebration of Collectivity and Joy
ImpulsTanz [ENA] With In C, Sasha Waltz makes a stunning ImPulsTanz debut, bringing to the Burgtheater stage a vibrant, ever-evolving celebration of movement, rhythm, and collective presence. Set to Terry Riley’s iconic 1964 minimalist composition—performed live in this iteration by the legendary Swiss post-industrial band The Young Gods—this performance unfolds as a living organism: colorful, intricate, and joyously alive.
Waltz’s choreography, rooted in scores and structured improvisation, mirrors the open form of Riley’s music. Ten dazzling dancers navigate 53 movement modules with exquisite individuality and mutual attentiveness. Decisions are made in real time, not in isolation but in connection. This dynamic interplay creates a choreography that feels fresh with every moment—like a conversation of bodies and breath. The result is a democratic dance ecosystem, where unity emerges not from uniformity, but from sensitivity and trust.
The energy is radiant, the atmosphere infectious. What begins in subtle ripples builds toward ecstatic waves of motion. The Burgtheater becomes a playground of shimmering patterns and evolving relationships. The Young Gods’ live performance adds a raw, contemporary edge to Riley’s hypnotic loops—bridging 1960s experimentation with 2020s urgency. In C is more than a performance—it’s an invitation into harmony through difference. Waltz crafts a luminous, hopeful space where joy, discipline, and freedom pulse as one. A highlight of ImPulsTanz 2025.
