Thrilling Day at the the Caves del Hams and Dinosaurland
Caves del Hams and Dinosaurland at Mallorca [ENA] Mallorca is famous for its beaches, but in Porto Cristo, we discovered a completely different side of the island—one hidden deep underground and another filled with prehistoric giants. A Hidden World Beneath the Surface: The Caves del Hams Our adventure began in the Caves del Hams, a breathtaking underground world known for its unique, hook-shaped stalactites—hence the name Hams, which means "hooks" in Mallorquín. Unlike typical stalactites that hang straight down, these formations curl and twist in strange shapes, seemingly defying gravity.
As we stepped inside, the air became cool and damp, and a soft, meditative music filled the space, adding to the mysterious atmosphere. The rock formations were truly mesmerizing. Gentle lighting illuminated the formations, casting dramatic shadows that made the cave feel alive. On of the highlights was the Magical Lake, where we watched a stunning light and music show. The reflections on the water, combined with classical music, created a dreamlike experience.
Another highlight was the hook-shaped stalactites, which, as I mentioned before, had such an unusual form that it seemed as if only magic could explain their existence. The caves at Mallorca are the unique place in the world where such kinds of stalactites could be observed. Our guide Mayo was simply fantastic, very knowledgeable and experienced. It was a great fun to discover the caves together with her.
Back to the Prehistoric Era: Dinosaurland After resurfacing from the caves, we made our way to Dinosaurland, just a short walk away. Suddenly, we had traveled from the depths of the Earth to a time when dinosaurs roamed the planet. Life-sized dinosaur replicas surrounded us, some standing still, others posed mid-roar with sharp teeth on display. The attention to detail was incredible, making them look almost real.
Throughout both experiences, our guide Mayo accompanied us, sharing insights and fun facts. Whether she was pointing out the caves' unusual formations or explaining details about the dinosaurs, her enthusiasm made the tour even more engaging. After exploring, we stopped at the park's restaurant, where we tried the tasty Dino Burgers—a fun and delicious way to refuel after our adventure. The themed food added to the immersive experience, making it feel like we were truly stepping back in time. Dinosaurland also had interactive areas where kids could dig for fossils, and informative displays that made the experience both fun and educational.
Our Recommendation If you're visiting Mallorca and looking for something beyond the beaches, the Caves del Hams and Dinosaurland make for a perfect day trip. The caves offer a magical underground experience with stunning formations and atmospheric music, while Dinosaurland brings history to life with its impressive dinosaurs and interactive exhibits. Whether you're traveling with kids, friends, or on your own, this combination of nature and adventure is well worth a visit.
